Castell Dolbadarn, dwy fran yn
troelli (Dolbadarn Castle, two crows circling) - Sometime,
not often, I sense from the word go that a print is going to go
smoothly. When I visited Dolbadarn Castle, it just felt 'right'.
Deciding which aspect to draw the castle from was difficult because
each angle offered something different. In the end, the sweeping
stairway won me over. The circular tower meant I needed to use three
colours not the anticipated two to get a real feeling of roundness
but apart from that, the print turned out more or less as I'd imagined.
The two crows circling were a later addition and I
feel they add a little something to the narrative. The
greeny-blue-grey tones were difficult to capture accurately but
the print is currently being exhibited in two venues, Elfen-Celf,
Llanberis (the Castle istself is about a mile outside the village)
and at the Helfa Gelf exhibition in Bodlewyddan Castle. |
