Diwedd y dydd, Cnicht -
I was fortunate enough to be invited back to the gallery in Croesor
to exhibit and demo my linocutting methods as part of the Helfa
Gelf Art Trail this year and this meant I could spend plenty of
time dashing from my workspace to the back door of the gallery (during
quite moments) simply to look at and absorb this magnificent peak.
It's the third linocut of Cnicht I've done in the last year and
the second in the Dyffryn Ogwen to Cwm Croesor series. The primary
aim of this new series of linocuts is to capture the essence of
the landscape in the simplest, purest possible manner ... fewest
marks, minimal colours. Only the absolutely necessary information
is included. It's a very different way of working and one I find
intense and challenging but incredibly satisfying. I'm very aware
that it isn't a style that suits all subjects or appeals to everyone
but I do feel that working in more than one style keeps my work
fresh and keeps me on my toes.
