Eira dwfn, Nantmor (Deep snow,
Nantmor) - Dyffryn Nantmor is one of my favourite valleys,
largely because it's often possible to find it completely deserted.
It has a narrow, single track road running through it with much
needed 'informal' passing places dotted along its length. When it
snows in Nantmor, is really snows and on the day
I was there drawing for the print below the road was barely driveable
and the silence was overwhelming. The only sounds were the river,
a waterfall in the distance and a few brave birds. No traffic, no
voices, heavenly. The colour palette for this relatively small print
was critical to create a mood of utter calm and stillness - the
steely blue of the river, the bold black faces of the boulders and
just a hint of red in the sky, indicating yet more snow to come.
